Placing a separate magnet there will create a stable electromagnetic connection with the solenoid and trick the machine into thinking that the lid is closed when it s really open.

My 36 month old maytag washer mvwc300vw1 had a sensing light and a blinking lid lock light.
The problem may not necessarily be a broken lid lock.
Be sure lid lock and lid striker are clean as lint or detergent buildup can block the switch and cause the flashing light.
I finally found the wiring diagram inside the front panel and was able to determine the switch would not cause the symptoms i had.
