When a ceramic coating is applied to a painted or non painted surface it physically bonds to the surface and creates a strong layer of uv protection.

It is strictly a shine enhancing agent that will produce a dramatic wet look on your paint. But contrary to popular belief applying car wax on top of the hydrophobic coating doesn t really do much to protect the coating much less the valuable car parts underneath. Only once the surface is residue free will your ceramic coating be able to properly bond to your paintwork. Start off by properly washing your vehicle.

On the concours series a glaze is essential to achieve a winning deep gloss. Essentially a glaze is a substance that is applied to the surface of a vehicle in order to fill and obscure any small imperfections or scratches that are visible. They resist heat uv rays environmental contaminants harsh detergents much better than wax. Most glazes have no protective qualities so always follow with a wax or sealant.

Additionally wax products can be used in surface decoration on both wet and fired clay. Applying a glaze to a vehicle s surface makes it appear shinier and more vivid. Thus a ceramic coating does not make your vehicle maintenance free but it does mean that with less work you will be able to maintain better results. Glazing and waxing are two commonly confused processes.

One of the benefits of using wax instead of glaze is that a dark wax can be buffed with a soft cloth after it dries to add a little more sheen to your piece. First the bisqued plate is dipped in glaze allowed to dry coated with wax resist over glaze then set aside to allow the wax to dry figure 1. Moreover having a ceramic coating means that you will no longer have to wax your vehicle every few months eliminating a significant part of maintaining your car s exterior. Wax resist can be applied to the bottom of a pot to prevent glazes and ceramic pieces from sticking to the kiln shelf during firings.

Clean slate isn t just wax free it will also strip away any remaining sealants waxes or glazes. When the paper is lifted it removes the wax and some of the glaze wherever the pencil was impressed. It does not create the chemical bond like we find with ceramic coatings. Glaze doesn t add any additional sheen and can t be buffed.

A glaze is not a polish or wax. In ceramics wax resist is often applied to bisque ware in order to resist the application of glazes slips or underglazes.
